Anne Frank: A Brief Sketch of Her Life

Early Life

Anne was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1929. Her parents, Otto and Edith Frank, were both of Jewish descent and worked in the banking industry. When Anne was four years old, her family moved to Amsterdam to escape the anti-Semitic laws in Germany.

World War II

In 1940, Germany invaded the Netherlands and the Frank family went into hiding in a secret annex above Otto Frank's office building in Amsterdam. They were joined by four other people, including Anne's sister, Margot. During their time in hiding, Anne wrote in her diary about her experiences and feelings.

The family was discovered by the Gestapo in 1944 and sent to concentration camps. Anne died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, just a few weeks before the camp was liberated by British troops.
