Ram bought two bikes for Rs. 35,000 each. On selling one bike he made ...
Given:

  • Ram bought two bikes for Rs. 35,000 each.

  • He sold one bike at a profit of 5%.

  • He sold another bike at a loss of 10%.

To find: Ram's overall profit or loss.

Solution:

  • Cost Price of both bikes: Ram bought two bikes for Rs. 35,000 each. Therefore, the total cost price of both bikes is Rs. 70,000.

  • Selling Price of bikes: Ram sold one bike at a profit of 5%. Therefore, the selling price of that bike is 105% of its cost price. The selling price of the other bike is 90% of its cost price because Ram sold it at a loss of 10%.

  • Total Selling Price of both bikes: Let the cost price of each bike be x. Therefore, the selling price of the first bike is 1.05x and the selling price of the second bike is 0.9x. Therefore, the total selling price of both bikes is 1.05x + 0.9x = 1.95x.

  • Profit or loss: Ram's overall profit or loss can be calculated by subtracting the total cost price of both bikes from the total selling price of both bikes. Therefore, Ram's profit or loss is 1.95x - 70,000.

  • Calculating x: We don't know the value of x, but we can calculate it using the given information. We know that Ram bought each bike for Rs. 35,000, so x = 35,000. Therefore, the total cost price of both bikes is 2x = 70,000.

  • Putting the value of x: Ram's profit or loss is 1.95x - 70,000 = 1.95 x 35,000 - 70,000 = Rs. 1,750.

Answer: Ram made an overall profit of Rs. 1,750.
