Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question:
Eight friends O, P, Q, R, S, T, U and V are sitting on a circular table in such a way that three are facing outward while other facing inward. Then, who sits second to right of U?
I. Q sits second to the left of T, who sits third to the left of P. V sits third to the left of O, who sits second to the right of R who sits facing centre. S sits second to the right of V, who sits second to the right of T. P sits to the immediate right of V who sits facing outward.
II. O sits third to the left of S, who sits to the immediate right of P. R sits second to the left of P who sits facing outward. T sits second to the left of Q, who sits to the immediate right of O who sits facing inward and V sits to the immediate left of R and Q sits third to the right of P.
  • a)
If the data in Statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
  • b)
If the data in Statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
  • c)

Verified Answer
Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements...
We have:
S sits second to right of V and V facing outward.
P sits to the immediate right of V.
V sits second to the right of T then T must be facing outward.
Q sits second to the left of T.
T sits third to the left of P then P must be facing outward.
As only three are facing outward, others must be facing centre.
V sits third to the left of O and O sits second to the right of R.
based on above data we get the following result:
Thus, P sits second to the right of U.
Hence, statement I is alone sufficient.
From II:
We have:
R sits second to the left of P and P sits facing outward.
Q sits to the immediate right of O and O sits facing inward.
Q sits third to the right of P and Q sits to the immediate right of O who is facing centre.
S sits to the immediate right of P and O sits third to the left of S then S must be facing centre.
T sits second to the left of Q then Q must be facing centre.
V sits to the immediate left of R then R must be facing inward.
Based on above data we get the following result:
Since, direction of facing of U is not known.
Hence, statement II is not sufficient.
