The Battle of Plassey
The Battle of Plassey took place on 23 June 1757 between the forces of the British East India Company led by Robert Clive and the army of the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah.

Background
The British East India Company had established a strong presence in Bengal through trade but faced resistance from the Nawab due to their growing power and influence. The Nawab besieged the British settlement in Calcutta, leading to the infamous Black Hole incident.

Events Leading to the Battle
Robert Clive led a small but well-trained force to recapture Calcutta and eventually engaged with the Nawab's army at Plassey. Clive also secured the support of Mir Jafar, a high-ranking noble in the Nawab's court who had grievances against Siraj-ud-Daulah.

The Battle
The Battle of Plassey was a decisive victory for the East India Company, primarily due to the betrayal of Mir Jafar and the lack of coordination among the Nawab's forces. Despite being outnumbered, the British forces used superior tactics and firepower to defeat the Nawab's army.

Aftermath
The defeat at Plassey marked the beginning of British dominance in India, as the East India Company gained control over Bengal and eventually expanded its influence throughout the subcontinent. The battle paved the way for the establishment of British colonial rule in India.
