Six books of different subjects - Hindi, English, History, Economics, Physics and Chemistry - are kept on a shelf in a vertical column but not necessarily in the same order.
The thickness of each book is - 4 cm, 5 cm, 6 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm. It is also known that: The sum of the thicknesses of only one pair of consecutive books is even. The book of English is not touching the book of Chemistry. Neither the book of Economics nor that of Physics the second thinnest. The book of Hindi is thinner than that of Chemistry and the sum of their thicknesses is 11 cm. The number of books kept between the books of Hindi and Chemistry is not 3. From the given information, we know that:

- The book of Hindi is thinner than that of Chemistry and the sum of their thicknesses is 11 cm.

Therefore, the book of Hindi cannot be the thickest book i.e., it cannot be of 10 cm thickness. Also, the book of Chemistry is thicker than Hindi, and the sum of their thicknesses is 11 cm. So, Hindi cannot be of 4 cm or 5 cm thickness as well. Hence, Hindi can be of 6 cm, 7 cm, or 8 cm thickness.

- Only the book of English is kept between the book of Hindi and that with thickness 6 cm.

Therefore, Hindi cannot be of 6 cm thickness. Hence, Hindi can be of 7 cm or 8 cm thickness.

- The number of books kept between the books of Hindi and Chemistry is not 3.

Therefore, Hindi and Chemistry cannot be adjacent to each other. So, Hindi cannot be the top or the bottom book on the shelf.

- The book of Physics is kept immediately below the book of Economics which is not the thickest.

Therefore, Physics cannot be the top book on the shelf. Hence, Hindi is not the top book on the shelf either.

- The thickness of the book which is second from the top is less than 8 cm and more than 4 cm while the book that is kept at the bottom is History.

Therefore, History is the bottom book on the shelf. Hence, Hindi is not the bottom book on the shelf either.

So, Hindi must be the second, third, or fourth book on the shelf.
