Directions: Rearrange the following five sentences (A), (B), (C), (D)...
First sentence:- The opening sentence of the passage should indicate the general idea or crux of the passage. On reading the passage, we infer that it is about the struggle automobile brand Volkswagen has to do in convincing it's investors and the reasons for the same. The first sentence should bring out this problem in a clear cut manner. We observe that statement B and D are resultant reactions of some another statement and hence cannot be used as the opening statements. Out of the remaining A, C and E, we find that statement 5 clearly brings out the thought of the passage by bringing out the fact of Volkswagen's bad reputation amongst investors. So, sentence E is the first statement.
Second sentence:- The next sentence should highlight the reason for such insecurity amongst investors. We notice that statement C clearly highlights the reason for such a bad reputation. However, it gives only a glimpse of such a problem by giving the clue 'the past', which shall be further discussed in the coming sentences. So, statement B is the second sentence.
Third sentence:- This sentence should describe in detail about 'the past' that has lead to the insecurity amongst the investors. Sentence D shows the result of such insecurity but not the cause and hence can be eliminated. Out of statement C and A, statement C shows the reason for such disinvestment i.e. the rampant flow of unprotected decisions by Volkswagen administration. Such decisions left investors bewildered and confused in regard to the intentions of the company. So, statement C should be the third sentence.
Fourth sentence:- Now, the remaining statements should highlight either the further mismanagement by the company or the resultant reaction associated with them. We notice that no more such statements pertaining to the course of action of the company are highlighted, however, the reactions from the investors and further effects are due in the remaining statements. Statement D shows the reaction of the investors to the rampant series of actions by the company. So, statement D is the fourth sentence.
Fifth sentence:- The last sentence of the passage should indicate the effect the insecurity and disinvestment of the investors had on the company i.e. it's shares, despite having high market share were sold at 'cheap' rates, simply, because of the lack of capital (investment). So, statement A is the correct sentence.
Thus, the correct sequence is:- EBCDA
Hence, the correct option is (D).
