Given
Number of boys in the class = 17
Each girl gets = 6 chocolates
Each boy gets = 4 chocolates
The average number of chocolates distributed per head = 5 chocolates
Concept used:
(Total number of chocolates distributed = Number of students × Number of chocolates distributed per head)
Let the number of girls in the class be x
Each girl gets 6 chocolates
⇒ Total Number of chocolate Girl gets = 6x
Now, the number of boys in the class = 17
Each boy gets 4 chocolates
⇒ Total number of chocolate Boy gets = 17 × 4
⇒ 68
Total number of chocolates distributed in the class = 6x + 68 ---- (i)
Now, the average number of chocolate distributed per head in the class = 5
Total number of students in the class = number of boys + number of girls
⇒ Total number of students in the class = 17 + x
(Total number of chocolates distributed = Number of students × Number of chocolates distributed per head)
⇒ Total number of chocolates distributed = (17 + x) × 5 ----(ii)
Now, equating (i) and equation (ii)
⇒ 6x + 68 = (17 + x) × 5
⇒ 6x + 68 = 85 + 5x
⇒ x = 17
Number of girls = 17
Hence, the correct option is (C).

To solve this question, let's assume the number of girls in the class as 'x'.

Given:
Number of boys in the class = 17
Number of chocolates each girl gets = 6
Number of chocolates each boy gets = 4
Average number of chocolates distributed per head = 5

We can calculate the total number of chocolates distributed in the class using the average number of chocolates per head.

Total number of chocolates distributed = Average number of chocolates per head × Total number of students
Total number of chocolates distributed = 5 × (17 + x)

Now, let's calculate the total number of chocolates distributed in terms of the number of girls and boys.

Total number of chocolates distributed = Number of boys × Number of chocolates each boy gets + Number of girls × Number of chocolates each girl gets
Total number of chocolates distributed = 17 × 4 + x × 6
Total number of chocolates distributed = 68 + 6x

Since the total number of chocolates distributed is the same, we can equate the two expressions.

68 + 6x = 5 × (17 + x)

Simplifying the equation:

68 + 6x = 85 + 5x

Bringing all the variables to one side:

6x - 5x = 85 - 68

x = 17

Therefore, the number of girls in the class is 17.

Hence, the correct answer is option C) 17.
