Effect of temperature on viscosity:

As the temperature of a liquid is raised, the coefficient of viscosity decreases. This is because, at higher temperatures, the kinetic energy of the molecules in the liquid increases. This increased kinetic energy causes the molecules to move faster and collide with each other more frequently. As a result, the intermolecular forces between the molecules weaken, making it easier for the liquid to flow.

Exceptions:

There are some liquids, like water, whose coefficient of viscosity increases initially with temperature up to a certain point, known as the "critical temperature". After this point, it decreases with further increase in temperature. This is due to the fact that at low temperatures, the intermolecular forces between the molecules of water are strong and it resists flow. As the temperature increases, these forces weaken, causing a decrease in viscosity. However, at high temperatures, the molecular motion becomes very chaotic, leading to an increase in viscosity.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the coefficient of viscosity of a liquid decreases with an increase in temperature. Exceptions to this rule occur in some liquids like water, whose coefficient of viscosity initially increases with temperature up to a certain point before decreasing again.
