Given,

Initial velocity, u = 10 m/s (horizontal)

Height of the tower, h = 100m

Acceleration due to gravity, g = 9.8 m/s² (downwards)

We need to find the time taken by the ball to reach the ground.


Approach:

The ball follows a projectile motion i.e. a combination of horizontal motion with constant velocity and vertical motion with constant acceleration due to gravity. We can use the equations of motion to find the time taken by the ball to reach the ground.


Calculation:

Using the equation of motion,

h = ut + 1/2 gt²

where,

h = height of the tower = 100m

u = initial velocity in the horizontal direction = 10 m/s

g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s²

t = time taken by the ball to reach the ground


On substituting the values, we get

100 = 10t + 1/2 * 9.8 * t²

Simplifying the equation,
