In what ratio should two varieties of rice costing Rs.12 per kg and Rs. 18 per kg respectively be mixed so that the resulting mixture when mixed with another variety of rice costing Rs.20 per kg in the ratio 4:3 , would yield a mixture coasting Rs.16 per kg?
Most Upvoted Answer
In what ratio should two varieties of rice costing Rs.12 per kg and Rs...
Solution:

Given:

Cost of Rice A = Rs. 12 per kg

Cost of Rice B = Rs. 18 per kg

Cost of Rice C = Rs. 20 per kg

Ratio of Rice C in the final mixture = 4/2 = 2

Cost of the final mixture = Rs. 16 per kg

To Find:

Ratio in which Rice A and Rice B should be mixed

Method:

Let us assume that x kg of Rice A and y kg of Rice B are mixed to form the final mixture.

Cost of Rice A = Rs. 12 per kg

Cost of Rice B = Rs. 18 per kg

Therefore, cost of x kg of Rice A = 12x

And, cost of y kg of Rice B = 18y

Total cost of the mixture = 12x + 18y

Ratio of Rice C in the final mixture = 4/2 = 2

Therefore, the total quantity of the final mixture = (x + y + 2) kg

Cost of the final mixture = Rs. 16 per kg

Therefore, the total cost of the final mixture = 16(x + y + 2)

Now, we can form the following equation based on the above information:

(12x + 18y) / (x + y + 2) = 14

On solving the above equation, we get:

x/y = 1/1

Therefore, Rice A and Rice B should be mixed in the ratio of 1:1.

Answer:

Therefore, Rice A and Rice B should be mixed in the ratio of 1:1 to get the final mixture of Rs. 16 per kg.
