A draws a bill on B for Rs 4500 for mutual accommodation in the ratio ...
Solution:

Given, A draws a bill on B for Rs 4500 for mutual accommodation in the ratio of 2:1.

Let A’s share be 2x and B’s share be x.

Then, 2x + x = 3x = 4500

x = 1500

A’s share = 2x = 3000

B’s share = x = 1500

A got it discounted at 4230.

Let the discount be y.

y = 4500 – 4230 = 270

The proceeds obtained by A = 4230

A remitted 1/3rd of the proceeds to B.

Amount remitted to B = 1/3 x 4230 = 1410

After the bill is discounted, the amount realized by A = 4230

The amount to be paid at maturity = 4500

The amount to be remitted by A to B at maturity = 4500 – 4230 + 1410

= 1680

Therefore, A should remit Rs 1680 to B at maturity such that B can pay off the bill.
