The common pattern of peasant revolts in western India can be identified as:
Attacks on Sahukars:
- The peasants frequently targeted Sahukars, who were moneylenders and traders, as they were considered exploitative.
- Moneylenders were often accused of charging exorbitant interest rates and manipulating accounts to keep peasants in debt.
Burning of Account Books and Debt Bonds:
- As a means of protest, peasants often destroyed account books, bonds, and other documents related to their debts.
- This was done to symbolically free themselves from the oppressive debt and to challenge the hold of moneylenders on their lives.
Destruction of Property:
- The revolts often involved damaging the property of moneylenders, such as breaking into their houses and burning down their possessions.
- This was done to cause financial harm to the moneylenders and make it difficult for them to continue their exploitative practices.
In summary, the common pattern of peasant revolts in western India involved attacking Sahukars, burning account books and debt bonds, and destroying the property of moneylenders as a form of protest against economic exploitation.
