Fundamental Duties in Light of Fundamental Rights

Relationship between Fundamental Duties and Fundamental Rights

The Fundamental Duties and Fundamental Rights are interdependent on each other. While Fundamental Rights empower the citizens, Fundamental Duties lay down the responsibilities that the citizens have to fulfill towards the nation. The fulfillment of Fundamental Duties is necessary for the protection and enjoyment of Fundamental Rights. For example, the duty to respect the Constitution and its ideals is essential for the protection and enjoyment of the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression.
