Eligibility Criteria for IBPS Clerk Exam
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts the IBPS Clerk Exam to select candidates for the clerical cadre in various banks across India. 1. Nationality:
- The candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or

- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
2. Age Limit:
- The candidate must be between 20 and 28 years of age. Relaxation in the upper age limit is provided for candidates belonging to certain categories, as per government rules.
3. Educational Qualification:
- The candidate must possess a degree (graduation) in any discipline from a recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.
- Proficiency in the local language of the state/UT for which the candidate is applying is also required.
Relaxation for Backward and Marginalized Communities
Candidates belonging to backward or marginalized communities, such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD), are provided certain relaxations in terms of age limit, educational qualifications, and reservation.
1. Age Relaxation:
- Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates are eligible for a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.
- Other Backward Class candidates are eligible for a relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit.
- Persons with Disabilities (PWD) are eligible for age relaxation as per government rules.
2. Educational Qualification:
- There is no relaxation in educational qualifications for candidates belonging to backward or marginalized communities. The same educational qualification requirement applies to all candidates.
3. Reservation:
- Reservation of vacancies for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) is as per the government guidelines and policies.
