If a certain positive integer is divided by 9, the remainder is 3. What is the remainder when the integer is divided by 5?

(1) If the integer is divided by 45, the remainder is 30

(2) The integer is divisible by 2

  • a)
Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked

  • b)
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked

  • c)
BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient

  • d)
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked

  • e)
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data are needed

If a certain positive integer is divided by 9, the remainder is 3. Wha...
(1) If the integer is divided by 45, the remainder is 30.
Statement (1) provides information about the remainder when the integer is divided by 45. However, this information is not directly helpful in determining the remainder when the integer is divided by 5. Therefore, statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
(2) The integer is divisible by 2.
Statement (2) tells us that the integer is divisible by 2. This means the integer is even. However, this information does not provide any specific information about the remainder when divided by 5. For example, the integer could be 2, 4, 6, and so on, resulting in remainders of 2, 4, 1, respectively, when divided by 5. Therefore, statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
Combining both statements, we still don't have enough information to determine the remainder when the integer is divided by 5. Statement (1) provides information about the remainder when divided by 45, but this is not directly applicable to the question. Therefore, both statements together are not sufficient.
Since statement (1) alone is sufficient to determine the remainder when the integer is divided by 9, but not sufficient to determine the remainder when divided by 5, the correct answer is option A: Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
