  • During the Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790 - 1792 AD), the Governor General was Lord Cornwallis.
  • This war was ended by the Treaty of Srirangapatnam in 1792 AD.
  • Under this treaty, almost half of the Mysore region was annexed by a coalition of British, Nizam and Marathas.
  • Barmahal, Dindigul and Malabar went to the British, while the Marathas gained the areas around the Tungabhadra and its tributaries, and the Nizam acquired the territories beyond Pennar from the Krishna.
  • In addition, Tipu also suffered a war loss of three crore rupees.
  • Half of the war compensation was to be paid immediately while the rest was to be given in installments, for which two of Tipu's sons were taken hostage by the British
