  • These states represent 25 percent of India's total groundwater exploitation.
  • The World Bank and the Central Government have a 50:50 share in this scheme. The World Bank has approved an assistance of Rs 6,000 crore under the Atal Bhujal Yojana.
  • According to the last year's report of the Central Ground Water Board, out of 6584 groundwater blocks in the country, 1034 blocks have been over-utilized. These are commonly called 'dark zones' (water crisis situations).
