A detailed lab analysis of a meteorite recently discovered in Antarctica revealed that the meteorite has geological characteristics common to the planet Mars. To date, scientists have not found these characteristics anywhere other than on Mars.using a technique called "acid-etching" scientist found that the meteorite contained fossilized remains of single-cell life forms.
The statement above, if true, best support which of the following as a conclusion?
  • a)
The fossilized remains indicate that life exists on Mar
  • b)
The scientists have evidence to support a hypothesis that the meteorite came from mars.
  • c)
The meteorite represents a substantial step forward in human knowledge of the development of life in the solar system.
  • d)
undiscovered meteorites currently exist in Antarctica
  • e)
"Acid - etching" is necessary to confirm the existence of fossilized remains in meteorites.
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

b) The scientists have evidence to support a hypothesis that the meteorite came from Mars.
The given information states that a meteorite discovered in Antarctica has geological characteristics common to Mars and contains fossilized remains of single-cell life forms. This suggests that the meteorite originated from Mars, providing evidence to support the hypothesis that it came from the planet. Therefore, option (b) is the most appropriate conclusion based on the provided information.
Options (a), (c), (d), and (e) are not directly supported by the given information. The statement does not provide sufficient evidence to conclude that life exists on Mars (option a), make a broad claim about human knowledge of life development in the solar system (option c), assert the existence of undiscovered meteorites in Antarctica (option d), or state that "acid-etching" is necessary to confirm the existence of fossilized remains in meteorites (option e).

In recent years, a class of drugs known as COX-2 inhibitors has gotten much publicity for the drugs’ power to relieve inflammation and pain. These drugs are relatively new to the pharmaceutical industry, their mechanisms of action having been discovered only in 1971. That year, John Vane discovered the relationship between nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, and a group of molecules, called prostaglandins, responsible for producing the sensation of pain in the human body, among other functions.Prostaglandins were first discovered in the 1930s and are now known to be generated by most mammalian tissues in response to external stimuli. Unlike classical hormones that are synthesized in one tissue but act on a distant one, prostaglandins act on the cells that produce them or on cells located close to the prostaglandins’ cells of origin.Aspirin alleviates pain by inhibiting the function of an enzyme called cyclooxygenase or COX; this inhibition prevents the production of prostaglandins. The three forms of this enzyme, COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3, all stimulate the production of prostaglandins, but each serves a different purpose. COX-1 functions to protect the stomach from irritating gastric acids. COX-2 functions to induce inflammation in injured tissue and COX-3 functions to control the sensation of pain. Aspirin and other similar drugs, such as naproxen, inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2, sometimes producing or aggravating stomach ulcers in patients who take them.In order to eliminate the side effects of aspirin and related drugs, several pharmaceutical companies in the 1990s developed drugs that inhibited only COX-2. However, side effects almost always cropped up, even after clinical trials that seemed to indicate none. This often occurs because trials are conducted within very limited parameters; once the drug has been approved for mass distribution, however, the number of people taking it and the length of time that it is taken increase dramatically. Several COX-2 drugs that have been popular in recent years fit this pattern: initially successful in clinical trials, subsequent studies showed them to have serious, potentially lethal side effects.Though prostaglandin chemistry and enzymology have been studied for half a century, pinpointing the exact role of the molecules in physiological processes still remains a challenge for researchers. Hence it is not surprising that recent therapeutic attempts to interfere with the formation of certain prostaglandins have produced unexpected side effects. It now seems that the hype surrounding COX-2 drugs may have been premature.Q. According to the passage, all of the following are true of prostaglandins EXCEPT

This much was well known that the purpose of a gene is to store the recipe for making proteins and that we inherit from our parents a gigantic list of recipes for making proteins and protein-making machines. What was not clear as late as the early 20th century until Gregor Mendels experiments were published and understood was that when crossed, the expression of these genes skipped a generation.Mendel discovered that when white flower and purple flower plants are crossed, the result is not a blend. Rather than being a mix of the two, the offspring was purple flowered. He then conceived the idea of heredity units, which he called factors, one of which is a recessive characteristic and the other dominant. Mendel said that factors, later called genes, normally occur in pairs in ordinary body cells, yet segregate during the formation of sex cells. The dominant gene, such as the purple flower in Mendels plants, will hide the recessive gene, the white flower. Mendel crossed over 29,000 plants including inflated seed pods with wrinkled seed pods, green unripe pods with yellow unripe pods, and axial flowers with terminal flowers. In every case the resulting hybrids were just like one parent with the essence of other parent missing. However, as these hybrids were allowed to self-fertilize, the essence of the recessed parent re-appeared in exactly one third of the cases. This re-appearance is called the law of thirds. This law is not just obeyed in plants but also in every living species as demonstrated by Nagelis experiment on crossing angora cats with another breed. Nageli observed that the angora coat disappeared in the next generation but re-appeared in the kittens in the third.Mendels law has been put to a variety of uses such as selecting the right plants to hybridize to get the desired mix of dominant factors. A surprising use of the law has been to explain Alkaptonuria in which the patients suffered from arthritis and their urine and the ear wax turned reddish black upon exposure to air. Rare in the general population but frequent in children of first-cousin marriages, the incidence of Alkaptonuria is attributed to expression of recessive factors. The primary purpose of the passage is to
