Answer:

Given, speed of first train = 15 m/s

Speed of second train = 20 m/s

Distance between two trains = 500 m

Retardation = 1 m/s

Step 1: Calculate the time taken by the trains to stop

We know that, retardation = (final velocity - initial velocity) / time

For both the trains, retardation = 1 m/s

Initial velocity of first train = 15 m/s

Final velocity of first train = 0 m/s

Initial velocity of second train = 20 m/s

Final velocity of second train = 0 m/s

Time taken by first train to stop = (15 - 0) / 1 = 15 seconds

Time taken by second train to stop = (20 - 0) / 1 = 20 seconds

Step 2: Calculate the distance covered by the trains before stopping

Distance covered by first train before stopping = (15 * 15) / (2 * 1) = 112.5 m

Distance covered by second train before stopping = (20 * 20) / (2 * 1) = 200 m

Step 3: Calculate the total distance covered by both the trains before stopping

Total distance covered by both the trains before stopping = 112.5 + 200 = 312.5 m

Step 4: Calculate the separation distance after they stop

Separation distance after they stop = Distance between two trains - Total distance covered by both the trains before stopping

Separation distance after they stop = 500 - 312.5 = 187.5 m

Therefore, the separation after they stop is 187.5m (Option C).

(C) 187.5 mUsing equations of stopping distance,After applying break train with velocity 15 travels distance [15]^2/(2)(1)= 112.5m Similarly, another train travels distance= [20]^2/(2)(1) = 200mSo, final separation= 500 - (112.5+200) = 187.5 m
