Topsoil is the upper most layer of the earth.A -HORIZON is generally dark in colour as it is also rich in humus as well as have minerals.the humus makes the soil fertile so the uppermost horizon is very fertile and provides nutrients to growing plants.this layer is also soft as it can retain more water.the next layer is B- HORIZON is less in humus but more minerals.this layer is harder and more compact.it is the middle layer.the next layer is BEDROCK or C -HORIZON this layer is madeup of small lumps of rocks with cracks. since it is madeup of small lumps of rocks it is very hard to dig with a spade..!!
