The National War Memorial in India stands as a solemn national structure erected to pay tribute to and commemorate the valiant soldiers of the Indian military who participated in various armed conflicts since India gained independence. The names of these courageous armed forces personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during conflicts with Pakistan and China, as well as in events like the 1961 War in Goa, Operation Pawan, and other crucial operations such as Operation Rakshak, have been meticulously inscribed on the memorial's walls in letters of shimmering gold.
This monumental project reached completion in January 2019 and was officially unveiled on the 25th of February in the same year. The inauguration ceremony took place at the memorial, with the honorable presence of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India and the three Chiefs of Staff of the Indian Armed Forces. During this poignant ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flames of Eternal Soldiers) at the Amar Chakra, situated beneath the primary obelisk within the monument, symbolizing perpetual homage to the nation's fallen heroes.
