A thief was spotted by a policeman from a distance of 225 metres. When...
Given data:
Distance between policeman and thief = 225 metres
Speed of thief = 11 km/h
Speed of policeman = 13 km/h

Conversion of speeds:
Convert the speeds of thief and policeman from km/h to m/s:
Speed of thief = 11 km/h = 11 * 1000 m / 3600 s = 3.06 m/s
Speed of policeman = 13 km/h = 13 * 1000 m / 3600 s = 3.61 m/s

Time taken by policeman to catch thief:
Let the time taken by the policeman to catch the thief be t seconds.
During this time, the thief would have run a distance of 3.06t metres.
The policeman would have run a distance of 3.61t metres.
Since the sum of the distances covered by the thief and policeman would be equal to the initial distance between them:
3.06t + 3.61t = 225
6.67t = 225
t = 225 / 6.67
t ≈ 33.74 seconds

Distance run by thief before getting caught:
Distance run by thief = 3.06 * 33.74 ≈ 1237.5 metres

Therefore, the thief would have run approximately 1237.5 metres before the policeman caught up with him. Hence, the correct answer is option A.
