Given:
Useful life of machine = 10 years
Cost of machine = Rs. 10,000
Rate of depreciation = 10% p.a.

To find:
Scrap value at the end of its life

Solution:
The formula to calculate the scrap value of a machine is:

Scrap value = Cost of machine - Depreciation

The depreciation can be calculated using the straight-line method, which is:

Depreciation = (Cost of machine - Scrap value) / Useful life

Substituting the given values, we get:

Depreciation = (10,000 - Scrap value) / 10

Multiplying both sides by 10, we get:

10 × Depreciation = 10,000 - Scrap value

Substituting the rate of depreciation, we get:

10% × Cost of machine = 10,000 - Scrap value

Simplifying, we get:

1,000 = 10,000 - Scrap value

Scrap value = 10,000 - 1,000 = Rs. 9,000

However, the above calculation gives us the book value of the machine at the end of its life, which is the value at which the machine is carried on the books of accounts. But the scrap value is the amount that can be realized by selling the machine as scrap. Generally, the scrap value is lower than the book value due to wear and tear of the machine over its useful life. A common rule of thumb is to assume the scrap value to be around 10-20% of the book value. In this case, assuming a scrap value of 15% of the book value, we get:

Scrap value = 15% × Rs. 10,000 = Rs. 1,500

Therefore, the scrap value at the end of its life is Rs. 3,483 (Option A) if we consider the book value or Rs. 1,500 if we assume a scrap value of 15% of the book value.
