Why is the difference between the duration of day and night hardly fel...
The day and night are nearly of the same duration at the equator. As Kanyakumari is quite near the equator at 8 degree 4'N the day-night difference is hardly one hour there, and therefore, the duration of day and night is hardly felt at Kanyakumari.
On the other hand, as we move away from the equator to the poles the variations in duration of day and night become greater. Kashmir is over 30 degree away from the equator and so the difference in duration of day and night is more there and we feel that difference.

The Difference between the Duration of Day and Night in Kanyakumari and Kashmir
Kanyakumari, located at the southernmost tip of India, and Kashmir, situated in the northernmost part of the country, experience significant differences in the duration of day and night. This variation can be attributed to several factors such as latitude, axial tilt of the Earth, and the Earth's revolution around the Sun.
1. Latitude
Kanyakumari has a latitude of approximately 8.1°N, while Kashmir lies at a latitude of around 34.1°N. The closer a location is to the equator, the less difference there is in the duration of day and night throughout the year. As Kanyakumari is closer to the equator, it experiences relatively equal day and night lengths throughout the year.
2. Axial Tilt of the Earth
The Earth's axis is tilted at an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees relative to its orbit around the Sun. This tilt causes the changing seasons and the variation in day and night lengths. When one hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it experiences longer days and shorter nights, while the opposite hemisphere experiences shorter days and longer nights.
3. Earth's Revolution around the Sun
The Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to complete one revolution around the Sun. During this revolution, it experiences different positions relative to the Sun, resulting in varying day lengths. The tilt of the Earth's axis plays a significant role in this variation. When a location is closer to the Sun, it receives more sunlight, leading to longer days and shorter nights.
4. Impact on Kanyakumari
Due to its proximity to the equator, Kanyakumari experiences almost equal day and night lengths throughout the year. The axial tilt and the Earth's revolution around the Sun have a minimal impact on the duration of day and night in this region. The difference between day and night is hardly felt because the Sun is nearly overhead throughout the year.
5. Impact on Kashmir
Kashmir, located at a higher latitude, experiences significant variations in the duration of day and night. During summer, when the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, Kashmir receives more sunlight and thus has longer days and shorter nights. Conversely, in winter, when the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, Kashmir experiences shorter days and longer nights.
In conclusion, the difference between the duration of day and night is hardly felt in Kanyakumari due to its proximity to the equator, while Kashmir experiences significant variations in day and night lengths due to its higher latitude. The axial tilt of the Earth and its revolution around the Sun play a crucial role in determining the duration of day and night in different regions of the world.
