Verified Answer
With reference to the Non-Cooperation Movement, consider the following...
The Non-Cooperation Movement:
  • The Khilafat Committee started a campaign of non-cooperation and the movement was formally launched on August 31, 1920. (Tilak had, incidentally, breathed his last on August 1, 1920).
  • In September, 1920, at a special session in Calcutta, the Congress approved a Non-Cooperation Programme till the Punjab and Khilafat wrongs were removed, and Swaraj was established.
  • The programme was to include :
    1. Boycott of government schools and colleges.
    2. Boycott of law courts and dispensation of justice through the Panchayats instead.
    3. Boycott of the Legislative Councils. There were some differences over this, as some leaders, like C.R. Das were not willing to include a boycott of the Councils, but bowed to Congress discipline. These leaders boycotted the elections held in November, 1920, and the majority of the voters too stayed away.
    4. Boycott of foreign cloth and use of Khadi instead. Also practice of hand-spinning to be done.
    5. Renunciation of government honours and titles. The second phase could include mass civil disobedience, including resignation from government service and non-payment of taxes.
  • The Congress Working Committee met at Bardoli in February, 1922, and resolved to stop all activities that led to breaking of the law and to get down to constructive work, instead, which was to include popularization of Khadi, national schools, and campaigning for temperance, for Hindu-Muslim unity and against untouchability.

Overview of the Non-Cooperation Movement
The Non-Cooperation Movement was a significant phase in India's struggle for independence, initiated in the early 1920s. It aimed to resist British rule through non-violent means.
Analysis of the Statements
Let's evaluate each statement regarding the Non-Cooperation Movement:
  • Statement 1: The Khilafat Committee launched the Non-Cooperation Movement and Tilak actively participated in it.
    - This statement is incorrect. The Non-Cooperation Movement was primarily launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. While the Khilafat Committee sought to protect the rights of Muslims concerning the Ottoman Empire, its collaboration with Gandhi was significant but did not initiate the movement itself. Tilak had passed away in 1920 and thus could not actively participate.
  • Statement 2: Boycott of the Legislative Councils was one of the mandates of this Movement.
    - This statement is correct. One of the key elements of the Non-Cooperation Movement was the boycott of British institutions, including the Legislative Councils, as a form of protest against British policies.
  • Statement 3: The Bardoli Resolution called for picketing of the liquor shops and formation of Volunteer Corps.
    - This statement is incorrect. The Bardoli Resolution specifically addressed issues related to land revenue and was not focused on liquor shops or Volunteer Corps, which were more associated with other movements.

Conclusion
In summary, out of the three statements analyzed, only the second statement is correct. Thus, the answer is option 'A', which states that only one statement is correct.
