- The local government got constitutional recognition through the 73rd and 74th amendment.
- In India, it is usually of two types of local government :
- rural self-government
- urban self-government.
- In a rural area, it is recognized as Panchayati raj and in Urban areas, Municipality or Municipal Corporation.
