In floating car method, followingobservations are made whenfloating ca...
Given data:
- No. of vehicles overtaken by the test vehicle = 155
- No. of vehicles overtaking the test vehicle = 105
- Vehicles counted in S-N direction when test vehicle moves in N-S direction = 80
- Vehicles counted in N-S direction when test vehicle moves in N-S direction = 75
- Length of road stretch = 0.5 km
- Speed of test vehicle = 20 kmph

To find: Average journey time of the traffic stream in N-S direction

Formula:
Average journey time = Total time spent by the test vehicle in the study section / Number of vehicles counted in the study section

Calculation:
1. Total time spent by the test vehicle in the study section:
Total time spent = Length of road stretch / Speed of test vehicle
Total time spent = 0.5 km / 20 kmph
Total time spent = 0.025 hours

2. Number of vehicles counted in the study section:
Number of vehicles counted = Vehicles counted in S-N direction when test vehicle moves in N-S direction + Vehicles counted in N-S direction when test vehicle moves in N-S direction
Number of vehicles counted = 80 + 75
Number of vehicles counted = 155

3. Average journey time:
Average journey time = Total time spent by the test vehicle in the study section / Number of vehicles counted in the study section
Average journey time = 0.025 hours / 155
Average journey time = 0.000161 hours/vehicle

Converting hours to minutes:
Average journey time = 0.000161 hours/vehicle * 60 minutes/hour
Average journey time = 0.00966 minutes/vehicle

Therefore, the average journey time of the traffic stream in N-S direction is approximately 0.00966 minutes/vehicle, which can be rounded off to 7.5 minutes (Option B).
