Reagents to distinguish between hexanal and 2-hexanone:

Tollens reagent:
- Tollens reagent is a solution of silver nitrate in ammonia.
- It is used to distinguish between aldehydes and ketones.
- When Tollens reagent is added to an aldehyde, it forms a silver mirror on the inner surface of the test tube.
- However, ketones do not give this reaction.

Br in CCl4:
- Bromine in carbon tetrachloride is used to distinguish between alkenes and alkanes.
- Alkenes will decolorize the bromine solution while alkanes will not react with it.
