Let the speed of boat in still water be x km/hr and the rate of stream be y km/hr
Downstream rate = (x + y) km/hr and upstream rate = (x – y) km/hr
Now, 20 /x + y = 1
⇒ x + y = 20 .....(1)
and 20/x - y = 2
⇒ x - y = 10 .....(2)
From (1) and (2) we have x = 15 km/hr
Downstream rate = (x + y) km/hr and upstream rate = (x – y) km/hr
Now, 20 /x + y = 1
⇒ x + y = 20 .....(1)
and 20/x - y = 2
⇒ x - y = 10 .....(2)
From (1) and (2) we have x = 15 km/hr
