Solution:

Given,
Sale price of 100 articles = Rs. 200 each
The sale price was made at cost plus 25%.

Let cost price of each article be x
Then,
Selling price of each article = x + 25% of x = 1.25x
Therefore,
Selling price of 100 articles = 1.25x * 100 = Rs. 125x

It is given that these 100 articles were recorded as actual sales, therefore,
125x = 100 * 200
=> x = Rs. 160

Hence, cost price of each article is Rs. 160

Now, the amount of inventory on approval at the end of the year can be calculated as follows:
Cost of 100 articles on approval = 100 * 160 = Rs. 16,000

Therefore, the amount of inventory on approval at the end of the year is Rs. 16,000.

Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.
