The heat of neutralization of a strong acid and a strong alkali is 57....
Given: Heat of neutralization = 57.0 KJ/mol

Moles of HNO3 solution = 0.5 mol

Moles of KOH = 0.2 mol

To find: Heat released when HNO3 solution is mixed with KOH

Formula: Heat released = n x Heat of neutralization

where n is the number of moles of the limiting reactant.

Calculation:

From the balanced chemical equation:

HNO3 + KOH → KNO3 + H2O

It is clear that 1 mole of HNO3 reacts with 1 mole of KOH to produce 1 mole of water. Therefore, 0.2 mol of KOH will react completely with 0.2 mol of HNO3, and 0.3 mol of HNO3 will be left unreacted.

Since HNO3 is the limiting reactant, the heat released will be calculated using the following formula:

Heat released = n x Heat of neutralization

where n is the number of moles of HNO3 that reacts.

n = 0.2 mol (moles of KOH used)

Therefore, Heat released = 0.2 mol x 57.0 KJ/mol = 11.4 KJ

Hence, the correct answer is option B, 11.4 KJ.
