Which organisation has proposed first to constitute the Constitution A...
Indian National Congress proposed the first Constitution Assembly to form the Indian Constitution in 1936.
Background:
Before the Indian Constitution came into existence, India was ruled by the British for over 200 years. The Indian National Congress was the main political party that fought for India's independence. They demanded a constitution that would be drafted by the people of India and not by the British government.
Proposal by Indian National Congress:
In 1935, the Government of India Act was passed, which provided for the establishment of a Federal Court and a Central Legislature consisting of two houses. This act did not provide for a constituent assembly to draft a constitution for India.
In 1936, the Indian National Congress proposed the formation of a Constituent Assembly to draft the Constitution of India. The proposal was accepted by the British government in 1940.
Formation of the Constituent Assembly:
The Constituent Assembly was formed in 1946, after the elections held in 1945-46. The assembly had 389 members, of which 292 were elected by the Provincial Legislative Assemblies and 93 were nominated by the Princely States.
The assembly was headed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad and its members included prominent leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B.R. Ambedkar, and others.
Conclusion:
The Indian Constitution was finally adopted on November 26, 1949, and came into effect on January 26, 1950. It is one of the longest written constitutions in the world and has been amended several times. The Constitution of India is a symbol of India's democracy and sovereignty.
