Which of the following statements is correct for ionic mobility?a)It d...
Ionic mobility is the measure of the velocity at which ions move in an electric field. It depends upon various factors which are discussed below:

Factors affecting ionic mobility:
a) Electric Field Strength: The velocity of ions is directly proportional to the electric field strength applied across the electrodes. Hence, the higher the voltage, the higher is the velocity of ions.

b) Charge and Size of Ion: The mobility of ions is inversely proportional to the size of the ion and directly proportional to the charge of the ion. Hence, smaller ions and ions with higher charge have higher mobility.

c) Viscosity of the Medium: The mobility of ions is inversely proportional to the viscosity of the medium. Hence, the higher the viscosity, the lower is the mobility of ions.

d) Temperature: The mobility of ions is directly proportional to the temperature of the medium. Hence, the higher the temperature, the higher is the mobility of ions.

Correct statements about ionic mobility:
a) It depends upon the voltage across the electrodes: As discussed earlier, the velocity of ions is directly proportional to the electric field strength applied across the electrodes. Hence, ionic mobility depends upon the voltage across the electrodes.

c) Ionic velocity per unit electric field strength is constant: This statement is also correct as the mobility of ions is defined as the ratio of ion velocity to the electric field strength. Hence, for a given ion, the mobility remains constant for a given temperature and viscosity of the medium.

Therefore, the correct statements about ionic mobility are option 'A,C'.

Which of the following statements is correct for ionic mobility?a)It d...
The movement of ion in solution depends on the electronic field which is generated in the solution by the electrodes. Ions on movement collide with eachother in order to reach at their desired electrode which reduces the mobility of ion...for increasing the mobility more electronic field is needed.
The electronic field in general is taken at the area which is approximately in mid of two electrodes but the field is equal in each area if we consider the solution to be homogeneous and have least amount of ions in it...as the ion's population and their migration will be at same rate throughout the solution.
