Distribution of Profits in a Partnership Firm

Introduction

In a partnership firm, profits are distributed among the partners based on their agreed-upon profit-sharing ratio. However, if the profits exceed a certain amount, then the partners may agree to distribute them differently. In this scenario, we will discuss the distribution of profits in a partnership firm where the divisible profit is either 5,400 or 25,400.

Scenario 1: Divisible Profit is 5,400

Profit-Sharing Ratio

  • A: 50%

  • B: 30%

  • C: 20%

Calculation of Profits

  • A's share of profit: 50% of 5,400 = 2,700

  • B's share of profit: 30% of 5,400 = 1,620

  • C's share of profit: 20% of 5,400 = 1,080

  • Total distributed profit: 2,700 + 1,620 + 1,080 = 5,400

Scenario 2: Divisible Profit is 25,400

Distribution of Profits up to 20,000

  • A's share of profit: 50% of 20,000 = 10,000

  • B's share of profit: 30% of 20,000 = 6,000

  • C's share of profit: 20% of 20,000 = 4,000

  • Total distributed profit: 10,000 + 6,000 + 4,000 = 20,000

Distribution of Profits above 20,000

  • A, B, and C have agreed to distribute the remaining 5,400 equally.

  • Each partner's share of the remaining profit: 5,400/3 = 1,800

Final Calculation of Profits

  • A's total share of profit: 10,000 + 1,800 = 11,800

  • B's total share of profit: 6,000 + 1,800 = 7,800

  • C's total share of profit: 4,000 + 1,800 = 5,800

  • Total distributed profit: 11,800 + 7,800 + 5,800 = 25,400

Conclusion

In a partnership firm, profits are distributed among the partners based on their agreed-upon profit-sharing ratio. However, if the profits exceed a certain amount, then the partners may agree to distribute them differently. In this scenario, we saw how profits were distributed in a partnership firm where the divisible profit was either 5,400 or 25,400.
