कविता का सार
‘तोप’ कविता ‘वीरेन डंगवाल’ द्वारा रचित है। इस कविता में कवि ब्रिटिश शासन द्वारा बनाए गए कंपनी बाग के मुहाने पर रखी गई तोप के विषय में बता रहे हैं। यह तोप सन 1857 के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की है। उस समय यह तोप शक्तिशाली थी। इस तोप ने अनेक शूरवीरों को मौत की नींद सुला दिया, परंतु अब यह प्रदर्शन की वस्तु बनकर रह गई है। 15 अगस्त और 26 जनवरी के दिन इस तोप को चमकाया जाता है। इसे देखने के लिए अनेक यात्री आते हैं। उन यात्रियों को तोप यह बताती है कि एक समय था, जब मैं अत्यंत सामथ्र्यवान थी, पर नियति के कारण आज मैं शांत खड़ी हूँ। मुझ पर छोटे बच्चे घुड़सवारी करते हैं। चिड़ियाँ मुझ पर बैठकर गपशप करती हैं। गौरैया मेरे अंदर तक घुस जाती हैं, क्योंकि आज मैं डर की वस्तु नहीं हूँ। इसी प्रकार अत्याचारी को भी एक दिन शांत होना पड़ता है। कभी न कभी उसके अत्याचार का अंत जरूर होता है। इस प्रकार तोप अत्याचारी व्यक्ति का प्रतीक बन गई है।
