FAQs on Flashcards: Body Fluids and Circulation - Biology Class 11 - NEET

1. What are the different types of body fluids involved in circulation?
Ans. The different types of body fluids involved in circulation are blood, lymph, and interstitial fluid. Blood circulates throughout the body in blood vessels, carrying oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste products. Lymph is a clear fluid that drains from tissues and eventually enters the bloodstream. Interstitial fluid is the fluid that surrounds and bathes the cells, providing them with nutrients and removing waste products.
2. How does the body maintain the balance of body fluids?
Ans. The body maintains the balance of body fluids through various mechanisms. One important mechanism is osmoregulation, which involves regulating the concentration of solutes in body fluids. This is controlled by the kidneys, which filter waste products and excess water from the blood. Another mechanism is fluid intake and output regulation, where the body regulates the amount of fluid ingested and the amount lost through sweating, urination, and respiration.
3. What is the role of the circulatory system in the body?
Ans. The circulatory system plays a crucial role in the body as it is responsible for the transportation of oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste products. The heart pumps blood, which carries oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and organs. It also delivers nutrients and hormones to cells and removes waste products for excretion. Additionally, the circulatory system helps regulate body temperature and plays a role in the immune response.
4. How does blood circulation work in the body?
Ans. Blood circulation in the body starts with the pumping of oxygenated blood from the heart's left ventricle into the aorta, the largest artery. The arteries then branch out into smaller arterioles, which further divide into capillaries. In the capillaries, exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste products takes place with the surrounding tissues. The deoxygenated blood is then collected by venules, which merge into veins. The veins transport the blood back to the heart's right atrium, where it is pumped to the lungs for oxygenation.
5. What is the connection between body fluids and diseases?
Ans. Body fluids play a significant role in the transmission and diagnosis of diseases. For example, blood tests can detect the presence of certain infections or abnormalities. Urine tests can provide information about kidney function and detect diseases such as diabetes. Other body fluids, such as cerebrospinal fluid and synovial fluid, can be analyzed to diagnose specific conditions or infections. Additionally, body fluids can be a medium for the transmission of diseases, such as through blood transfusions or sexual contact.
