General GATE Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2024 eligibility criteria will be published by IISc Bengalore. These criteria include several parameters such as academic qualifications, nationality, and more.

  • To be eligible to take the GATE exam, candidates must have a minimum qualification of 10+2+3, meaning they must be in the third year of their undergraduate course or have already completed it.
  • In addition, starting from 2021, candidates can now  apply for two papers from a list of recommended combinations, instead of just one as it was in the past.
  • One important piece of information for GATE aspirants is that there is no age limit for taking the GATE exam. 
  • Graduates in Engineering, Technology, Arts, or Commerce, as well as postgraduates in relevant disciplines, are also eligible to apply.
  • Additionally, candidates who have completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or Arts are also eligible to take the GATE 2024 exam.
  • It is also worth noting that there is no limit on the number of attempts for the GATE exam, as long as the eligibility criteria are met.
  • Candidates who possess certifications from professional societies must ensure that these exams are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning, etc.
  • Lastly, candidates who have obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or have completed their Bachelor's degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering, Technology, Science, Arts, or Commerce.

GATE Eligibility Criteria: Age Limit

Following are the details on the nationality, pass percentage, and age limit criteria of GATE 2024:

  • Pass Percentage: There are no minimum pass percentage requirements to apply for the exam.
  • Age Limit: There is no set age limit for applying to the GATE exam.
  • Nationality: To apply for GATE 2024, candidates must be of Indian origin. Candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates are also eligible to apply for the exam.

Documents Required to support GATE Eligibility 2024

Applicants for the GATE 2023 exam will be required to upload certain documents to verify their eligibility. These documents include:

  • Graduated applicants must submit their degree certificate or provisional degree as issued by the appropriate authorities.
  • Candidates who are in the final year of their degree must upload their Provisional Certificate issued by their Institute's Head, Dean, Registrar, or Head of Department. They can also submit a copy of their mark sheet for Section A of AMIE, etc.
