Homo erectus is a human ancestor species that lived in Asia, with significant fossil findings in Java and China. This species had a robust skeleton, a larger brain than earlier species, and a distinct skull shape. Their lifestyle involved the use of simple stone tools, which gradually became more complex over time. There is evidence that they may have used fire, and their diet consisted of large amounts of meat with some plant foods. Homo erectus lived in varying environments, from the colder climates of China to the warmer regions of Java. There is still debate among scientists about the classification and relationships of this species with other hominids, as well as their origins and connections between populations in Indonesia and China.
