Airports in India 

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is responsible for overseeing all airports in the country, including both international and domestic facilities. AAI manages a total of 137 airports across India, which includes 103 domestic airports, 24 international airports, and 10 customs airports. 

 AAI's primary functions involve the construction, maintenance, improvement, and management of airports and related aviation infrastructure. This work is carried out under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

In 2023, India has a total of 137 airports managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Out of these, 103 are domestic airports that provide essential air travel connectivity within the country, linking various regions and cities. 

International and Customs Airports:

• AAI also manages 24 international airports, which serve as crucial gateways for both domestic and international travelers, facilitating seamless connectivity to global destinations. UDAN Scheme:

• To enhance regional connectivity and accessibility, the Government of India has implemented the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. This initiative aims to develop and promote smaller regional airports, making air travel more accessible to the general public.
• UDAN seeks to bridge the gap between urban and rural communities by improving connectivity to underserved and unserved areas, thereby fostering economic growth and social development.
