Carcinoma Lung
These tumors can be categorized into two main groups: A. Small cell carcinoma B. Non-small cell carcinoma, which includes squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinoma.
Adenocarcinoma (including bronchoalveolar type) is the most prevalent type of lung cancer, while squamous cell carcinoma is the most common lung cancer in India.
Lung Carcinoma - Etiology
- Tobacco smoking (associated with squamous and small cell carcinomas)
- Exposure to ionizing radiation (such as uranium)
- Contact with asbestos
- Exposure to radium, chromium, and nickel
- Scar carcinoma (associated with adenocarcinoma) - Develops in old scars, metallic foreign bodies, wounds, tuberculosis, and irradiated areas.
Lung Carrifooma -Pathogenesis
Indicating that extensive portions of the respiratory mucosa undergo mutagenesis following exposure to carcinogens, known as the field effect.
Question for Lung Carcinoma
Try yourself:
Which type of lung cancer is the most prevalent?Explanation
- Adenocarcinoma is the most prevalent type of lung cancer.
- It is important to note that this information is not mentioned in the given text, but it is a commonly known fact in the medical field.
- Adenocarcinoma originates from the glandular cells in the lungs.
- It can occur in non-smokers and is often found in the outer regions of the lungs.
- Adenocarcinoma is usually associated with scar carcinoma, which develops in old scars, metallic foreign bodies, wounds, tuberculosis, and irradiated areas.

Question for Lung Carcinoma
Try yourself:
Which subtype of bronchogenic carcinoma is characterized by the presence of acinar, papillary, micropapillary, solid, lepidic predominant, and mucinous subtypes?Explanation
- Adenocarcinoma is a subtype of bronchogenic carcinoma that is characterized by the presence of various subtypes, including acinar, papillary, micropapillary, solid, lepidic predominant, and mucinous subtypes.
- Squamous cell carcinoma is another subtype of bronchogenic carcinoma, but it is not associated with these specific subtypes mentioned in the question.
- Large cell carcinoma and small cell carcinoma are also subtypes of bronchogenic carcinoma, but they are not specifically associated with the mentioned subtypes.
- Therefore, the correct answer is Option C: Adenocarcinoma.
