Additionally, a shorter distance between the ions also increases the strength of the bond as the electrostatic forces act over a smaller distance.
5. How is the bond length related to bond strength?
Ans. Bond length is inversely related to bond strength. As the bond length decreases, the bond strength increases. This is because a shorter bond length means that the bonded atoms are closer together, resulting in stronger attractive forces between their nuclei and the shared electrons. Therefore, a shorter bond length corresponds to a stronger bond.
