Special Types of Incidence Rates
Uses:
Prevalence encompasses both existing and new cases and is particularly well-suited for chronic disease assessment. It is influenced by both the incidence of the diseases and the duration of the illness.
Point prevalence: The count of all current cases of a specified disease at a specific moment in time, divided by the estimated population at that same moment, multiplied by 100.
Period prevalence: The number of existing cases of a specified disease during a given time interval, divided by the estimated population at the midpoint of that interval, multiplied by 100.
