National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID)

Context
The Vice President of India visited the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) in Hyderabad.

National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID)

  • The NIEPID was established in 1984 at Manovikasnagar, Secunderabad and it was formerly known as National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped.
  • NIEPID is an Autonomous Body under the administrative control of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
  • NIEPID aims to provide quality services to individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan) in the National interest.
  • It has three regional centers in Noida (New Delhi), Kolkata and Mumbai.
  • Objectives:
    (i) Development of models of care and rehabilitation.
    (ii) Consultancy services to voluntary organizations
    (iii) Community Based Rehabilitation
    (iv) Extension and Outreach programmes
  • Functions:
    (i) Identification, screening and assessment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
    (ii) Delivery of services to Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
    (iii) Training of local resource persons
    (iv) Supplying the training material to the needy
  • The Institute also conducts International and National level workshops on Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan) by collaborating with various organizations.

Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini

Context
The Indian Navy conducted a Sail Training capsule for officers trainees of the Republic of South Africa Navy (RSAN).

Details

  • The training programme was conducted under the aegis of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) which is an apex organisation for sail training.
  • The training helped improve various skills such as seamanship, navigation, communication and technical operations onboard.
  • The training was aimed at fostering the spirit of adventure and strengthening the ties between the two friendly nations across the oceans.
  • The training was conducted onboard the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini.

Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini

  • INSV Tarini is a 55-foot sailing vessel that has been built indigenously in India.
  • INSV Tarini, constructed at Aquarius Shipyard located in Goa is the second sailboat of the Indian Navy.
  • The INSV Tarini is famous for its circumnavigation of the globe with an all-women crew from Sep 2017 to May 2018.
    (i) The mission was called ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’ and was the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew.
  • INSV Tarini has been built with various updates based on experience from operating its predecessor INSV Mhadei.
  • INSV Tarini boasts advanced features like satellite communications, Raymarine navigation suite and a monitor wind vane equipped for emergency steering.

Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres achieves a record of an all time high teleconsultations in a single day

Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs)

  • The Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC) were launched in 2018.
  • Ayushman Bharat strives for Universal Health Coverage through the establishment of 150,000 Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs)
  • AB-HWCs aim to provide free and quality healthcare closer to people’s locations.
  • The primary objective of these AB-HWCs is to provide comprehensive primary health care, which ensures the highest possible level of health and well-being at all ages, through a set of preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is converting many existing Sub Health Centres (SHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Urban PHCs (UPHCs) across the country into Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs).

  • The teleconsultations are carried out by AB-HWCs on the e-Sanjeevani platform.
    (i) This is a doctor-to-doctor teleconsultation system, where there is a Specialist doctor located at the district hospital and another General doctor/Community health officer present along with the patient in remote areas.
    (ii) This ensures specialist consultation, minimizing physical travel of patients, and reduces cost.

Arth Ganga Project

Context
The Director-General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) emphasized on the Importance Of  ‘Arth Ganga Project’ in Singapore International Water Week, Water Convention 2022.

Arth Ganga Project

  • The Prime Minister in the first meeting of the National Ganga Council in Kanpur in December 2019, had conceptualised ‘Arth Ganga’ to energise the economic activity along the Ganga river bank.
  • The Arth Ganga Project intends to re-engineer the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) by involving the local community with a focus on economic activities in and around the Ganga river.
    (i) JMVP proposed to develop river Ganges as a safe mode of navigation and is being implemented with assistance from the World Bank.
  • The project involves various aspects which include Zero Budget Natural Farming, Livelihood Generation Opportunities, Cultural Heritage & Tourism, Monetisation and Reuse of Sludge & Wastewater, Public Participation and Institutional Building.
  • Small jetties along the river will be set up to boost the economic activities of the local communities, this is to stimulate economic activities along river banks in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
  • The project will also ensure large scale skills enhancement and public/private sector capability development on the banks of river Ganga.
