SHAKTI Policy

Why in News?
Recently, the Ministry of Power has announced a Scheme for Procurement of Aggregate Power of 4500 MW on competitive basis for five years on Finance, Own and Operate (FOO) basis under B (v) of SHAKTI Policy.

About SHAKTI Policy

  • Ministry of Power (MoP) in 2017 cleared the Coal Linkage Policy known as SHAKTI (Scheme to Harness and Allocate Koyla Transparently in India).
  • The Policy provides coal linkages to power plants which lack fuel supply agreements (FSAs) through coal auctions.

Objectives

  • The Shakti plan aims to guarantee coal availability to all Thermal Power Plants in India in a transparent and unbiased manner.
  • The plan is meant to help both the infrastructure industry and the public sector banks, which owe enormous amounts to power firms in outstanding loans.
  • The programme also seeks to strengthen domestic businesses and lessen reliance on imported coal.

Sangai Festival

Why in News?
The Prime Minister addressed the Manipur Sangai Festival via video message.

About Sangai Festival

  • The state’s largest event serves to highlight Manipur as a premier travel destination.
  • The festival highlights Manipur’s tourism potential in the areas of arts and culture, handicrafts, indigenous sports, food, music, and adventure sports, among other things.
  • The festival will feature performances of the state’s traditional dance, “Ras Leela,” as well as other folk dances like the Khamba Thoibi dance, Bamboo dance, Maibi dance, Kabui Naga dance, and others.
  • The critically endangered brow-antlered deer located only in Manipur’s Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating national park in the world, is the inspiration for the festival’s name. Sangai is the state animal of Manipur.
