The Agenda for the Sixth Council Meeting comprised the following items:

  • Reimagining Agriculture
  • Improving Physical Infrastructure
  • Accelerating Human Resources Development
  • Improving Service Delivery at Grassroots Level
  • Health and Nutrition

About the Governing Council of NITI Aayog

  • The Governing Council of NITI Aayog comprises the Prime Minister of India, Chief Ministers of all the States and Union Territories with Legislature, Lt Governors of other UTs, Ex-Officio Members and Special Invitees. 
  • It is the premier body tasked with evolving a shared vision of national development priorities, sectors and strategies with the active involvement of States in shaping the development narrative. 
  • The current one was the sixth Governing Council meeting.

Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram statehood Days

Context: PM Modi greets people of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram on Statehood Days.

Details

Both states attained statehood on 20 February 1987.

Mizoram

  • The Mizo hills area became the Lushai Hills district within Assam at the time of independence. Further, in 1954 it was renamed the Mizo Hills District of Assam.
  • Mizoram was given UT status in 1972.
  • The Union Territory of Mizoram was conferred the status of a full state after the signing of a memorandum of settlement (Mizoram Peace Accord) between the Central government and the Mizo National Front, ending a two-decade-old Insurgency.

  • The north-eastern state Arunachal Pradesh is celebrating its 35th Statehood Day on February 20, 2021.

Details

  • During the British colonial era, it was known as the North-East Frontier Agency.
  • In 1972, Arunachal Pradesh became India’s Union Territory.
  • It became a state on 20th February 1987.

Note

  • Arunachal Pradesh is the largest of the Seven Sister States of Northeast India by area.
  • It shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east, and a disputed border with China in the north at the McMahon Line.
