National Girl Child Day

Why in News?

Nation Celebrates National Girl Child Day every year on 24th of January.

About National Girl Child Day:

  • National Girl Child Day is celebrated in the country on January 24 every year
  • It was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
  • Gender discrimination is a major problem that girls or women face throughout their life.

Objective:

  • To provide support and opportunities to the girls of India.
  • To support the girl child of the nation and remove gender-based biases.
  • To promote awareness about the inequalities that a girl child faces and educate people about girl’s education.
  • The main focus is on changing society’s attitude towards girls, decrease female feticide and create awareness about the decreasing sex ratio.

Aim:

  • To promote awareness about the rights of the girl child.
  • To increase awareness on the importance of girl education, and their health and nutrition.
  • To promote the girls position in the society to make their living better among the society.

NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY-2022

In view of COVID 19 situation in the country, it has been decided that all programs should be organised on virtual/ online mode and all kinds of physical interactions should be avoided.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar-2022

  • On the occasion of National Girl Child Day on 24th January and as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a virtual function would be held to recognise the exemplary achievements of children by facilitating PMRBP awardees of 2022. 
  • Hon’ble Prime Minister would interact virtually with winners of PMRBP-2022.
  • The children along with their parents and concerned District Magistrate of their respective district would join the event from their district Head Quarters.
  • During the function, Hon’ble Prime Minister would give digital certificates to winners of PMRBP.
  • The certificates would also be given to winners of PMRBP 2021, who could not be given the certificates last year due to COVID situation.
  • The cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/- to be given to the awardees of PMRBP 2022 would also be transferred to the respective account of winners during the programme.

One District, One Product

Why in news?

One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative of Centre churning big success stories in J & K, North East , Uttar Pradesh.

About One District, One Product


Nodal: Ministry of Food Processing Industries(MOFPI). 

  • The ODOP initiative is aimed at manifesting the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to foster balanced regional development across all districts of the country.
  • The idea is to select, brand, and promote One Product from each District of the country.
    (i) For enabling holistic socioeconomic growth across all regions.
    (ii) To attract investment in the District to boost manufacturing and exports.
    (iii) To generate employment in the District.
    (iv) To provide ecosystem for Innovation/ use of Technology at District level to make them competitive with domestic as well as International market.

Objectives of the scheme:

  • Preservation and development of local crafts / skills and promotion of the art.
  • Increase in the incomes and local employment (resulting in decline in migration for employment).
  • Improvement in product quality and skill development.
  • Transforming the products in an artistic way (through packaging, branding)
  • To connect the production with tourism (Live demo and sales outlet – gifts and souvenir)
  • To resolve the issues of economic difference and regional imbalance
  • To take the concept of ODOP to national and international level after successful implementation at State level.

Sela Pass Tunnel Project

Why in News?

The final blast for the 980-metre long Sela Tunnel was recently conducted by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) amidst inclement weather and heavy snowfall.

About Sela Pass Tunnel Project

  • The Sela Tunnel Project is located in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Once completed, it will be a lifeline as it will provide all weather connectivity to Tawang.
  • The project comprises of Tunnel 1, which is a 980 m long single tube tunnel and Tunnel 2, which is a 1555 m long twin tube tunnel.
  • Tunnel 2 has one bi-lane tube for traffic and one escape tube for emergencies.
  • It will also be one of the longest tunnels to have been constructed above altitude of 13,000 feet.
