YUVA 2.0 – For Mentoring Young Authors

Context
Launch of  PM’s scheme for mentoring young minds – YUVA 2.0.

Details

• The Ministry of Education launched YUVA 2.0 (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) Scheme.
• It is a Prime Minister’s scheme to train young and budding authors below the age of 30 to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally. 
• YUVA 2.0 is a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to bring to the fore the perspectives of the young and budding authors on the Theme – ‘Democracy (institutions, events, people and constitutional values)’in an innovative and creative manner. The Theme is specific to Democracy in Indian context only so as to give a fillip to research and documentation about various aspects of the Indian democratic system.
• The scheme will help to develop a stream of writers who can write on various facets of Democracy in India encompassing the past, present and future.
• This scheme is to groom the next generation of young authors to create ambassadors of Indian literature.
• The books under this scheme will be translated into other Indian languages to ensure exchange of heritage and culture, thereby promoting ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.

Implementation of the Scheme
The National Book Trust of India (under the Ministry of Education),  as the Implementing Agency will ensure phase-wise execution of the Scheme under well-defined stages of mentorship.

About YUVA 1.0
The first mentorship scheme was launched in May 2021. The theme was National Movement of India with focus on Unsung Heroes; little known facts about the Freedom Struggle; Role of various places in National Movement; Entries bringing out new perspectives related to political, cultural, economic, or science related aspects of national movement etc. as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Swachh Bharat Diwas, 2022

Context
Celebrations of Swachh Bharat Diwas.

Details

• The Ministry of Jal Shakti organised an event to celebrate the Swachh Bharat Diwas. The President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the event and presented Swachh Survekshan Grameen Awards in various categories.
• The Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday is celebrated as Swachh Bharat Diwas. The President of India paid rich tributes to Gandhiji who was an embodiment of truth and non-violence and also laid great emphasis on cleanliness.
• The GoI launched Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October 2014 to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on sanitation. Under the mission, all villages, Gram Panchayats, Districts, States and Union Territories in India declared themselves “open-defecation free” (ODF) by 2 October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by constructing over 100 million toilets in rural India. To ensure that the open defecation free behaviours are sustained, no one is left behind, and that solid and liquid waste management facilities are accessible, the Mission is moving towards the next Phase II of SBMG i.e ODF-Plus. ODF Plus activities under Phase II of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) is to  reinforce ODF behaviours and focus on providing interventions for the safe management of solid and liquid waste in villages.
• On the occasion the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022 report and JJM Functionality Assessment 2022 report was released by the Jal Shakti Ministry.

Awards Presented
The following categories of awards were presented at the event 

• Swachh Survekhshan Gramin 2022 – by the Jal Shakti Ministry ranks states and districts on their performance attained in key quantitative and qualitative SBM-G parameters and engagement of the rural community in improvement of their sanitation status. Telangana won the first prize under the large states category followed by Haryana and Tamil Nadu at third position. Among the smaller states and Union Territories – Andaman and Nicobar won the first prize followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu and Sikkim.
• Swacchta Hi Seva (SHS), 2022 – Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign is celebrated during 15th September to 2nd October every year for undertaking shramdaan activities aiming to generate Jan Andolan through community participation; to provide impetus on implementation of SBMG Phase-II; to disseminate the importance of a Sampoorn Swachh village; to reinforce the concept of Sanitation as everyone’s business; and to commemorate Swachh Bharat Diwas (2nd October) with nationwide participation. The SHS awards are presented to States/UTs which conducted and reported the maximum number of activities.
• Start–up Grand Challenge was carried out to scout technologies that could support sustainable, affordable, scalable, and responsive solutions to the solid and liquid waste management challenges in rural areas.
• Jal Jeevan Mission – Functionality Assessment –Under Jal Jeevan Mission, to assess the performance of various local water utilities in States/ UTs, a functionality assessment exercise is undertaken every year to understand the status of water service delivery to households.
• Har Ghar Jal States/UTs & Districts: Special award given to Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh for being the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified district in the country.
• Sujlam 1.0 & 2.0: Sujlam was a 100 day campaign launched to manage grey-water through soak pits, leach pit, magic pit to ensure minimal stagnation of wastewater and check its discharge in the village pond.
• National film competition: National Level Competition for making films at Gram Panchayat-level on various components of ODF plus.
• National Wall painting competition: Competition on wall painting was held on ODF Plus themes in rural areas.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji

Context
PM paid rich tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji on his 118th birth anniversary.

About Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji

• He was born on 2nd October 1904 in Mughal Sarai, Uttar Pradesh.
• He was India’s second Prime Minister (1964 – 66).
• Jai Jawan Jai Kisan slogan was coined by Lal Bahadur Shastri. This slogan symbolises the hard work of the youth standing on the border and working in the fields.
• Shastri Ji was awarded Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award in 1966. He became the first recipient to be honoured posthumously.
• He passed away on 11th January 1966 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (then Soviet Union), a day after signing a peace treaty with Pakistan to end the 1965 Indo Pak war.
