CLOSING CEREMONY – EX TIGER TRIUMPH 2024

Introduction

The Closing Ceremony of the Bilateral Tri-Service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Amphibious Exercise, Tiger Triumph 2024, took place aboard USS Somerset on 30 Mar 2024.

About  News:

• Conducted in Visakhapatnam, this phase involved pre-sail discussions, Subject Matter Expert Exchange, sports engagements, ship boarding drills, and cross-deck visits.
• Notably, personnel from both Navies celebrated the festival of Holi together on 25 Mar 24, showcasing India’s vibrant culture.

Sea Phase (26 – 30 Mar 24):

• The sea phase saw units from both countries engaging in maritime exercises at sea.
• Troops landed at Kakinada to establish a joint Command and Control Centre and a Joint Relief and Medical Camp for HADR operations.
• Cross Deck helicopter operations featuring UH3H, CH53, and MH60R helicopters were conducted between Indian and US Navy ships off Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.

Participating Units:

• The Indian Navy contributed a Landing Platform Dock, Landing Ship Tanks (Large) with integral Landing Crafts and helicopters, a Guided Missile Frigate, and Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft.
• The Indian Army was represented by one Infantry Battalion Group with mechanized forces.
• The Indian Air Force deployed one medium lift aircraft, a transport helicopter, and the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT).
• The US Task Force included a US Navy Landing Platform Dock with integral Landing Craft Air Cushions and helicopters, a Destroyer, maritime reconnaissance and medium lift aircraft, and US Marines.

Special Operations Forces Participation:

• Special Ops Forces from all three Services participated and conducted combined operations with their US counterparts at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada during the harbour and sea phase.

Significance:

• Tiger Triumph 2024 signifies the robust strategic partnership between India and the US.
• The exercise aimed to share best practices and Standard Operating Procedures in multinational HADR operations, strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two countries.
