India-Seychelles High Level Virtual Event

Context: A range of Indian projects will be inaugurated in Seychelles.

Details

  • The projects include the new Magistrates’ Court Building in the capital city Victoria, which is India’s first major civil infrastructure project in Seychelles built with grant assistance.
  • The other projects are a Fast Patrol Vessel to Seychelles Coast Guard, a 1 MW Solar Power Plant, and 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs).

Background

  • Seychelles occupies a central place in the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ – ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’.

World Health Day

Context: 7th April is observed as World Health Day.

About World Health Day

  • The day is observed to mark the formation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on this day in 1948.
  • The celebrations are led by WHO worldwide to spread awareness about health-related issues and problems.
  • The theme for World Health Day 2021 is “Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone”.

MoU between India and Japan

Context: MoU was signed between India and Japan for academic and research cooperation and exchange.

Details

  • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed between National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Dept of Space, Government of India and Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan in November 2020.
  • MoU Objectives
    • Enable NARL and RISH to continue their cooperation in the areas of atmospheric science and technology, collaborative scientific experiments/campaigns and related modelling studies utilising the research facilities of RISH and NARL, exchange of scientific materials, publications and information, joint research meetings and workshops, exchange of faculty members, students and researchers.
    • Enable the mutual utilisation of facilities for NARL and RISH.

About the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL)

  • NARL is an autonomous research laboratory fully funded by the Department of Space, Government of India.
  • It carries out fundamental and applied research in atmospheric and space sciences.
  • It started functioning in 1992 as the National Mesosphere-Stratosphere-Troposphere (MST) Radar Facility.
  • NARL has now become one of the prime centres for atmospheric research in the country and operates a state-of-the-art MST radar, Rayleigh/ Mie Lidar, Boundary Layer Lidar, Sodium Lidar, Lower Atmospheric Wind Profiler, Sodar, Disdrometer, Optical Rain Gauge, GNSS-NavIC receiver, Automatic Weather Station apart from regular launching of the GPS Radiosonde.
  • NARL is located at Gadanki Village, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The location was selected after a careful consideration of the scientific requirements for the Indian MST radar and other constraints.

Madhu Kranti Portal

Context: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare launched Madhu Kranti portal and Honey Corners of NAFED.

About Madhu Kranti Portal

  • Madhu Kranti portal is an initiative of the National Bee Board (NBB), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare under the National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM).
  • This portal is being developed for online registration to achieve traceability source of honey and other beehive products on a digital platform.
  • Necessary functionalities are being developed on the portal to create a database of all stakeholders involved in honey and other beehive products’ production, sales and marketing chain.
  • There is a provision for the online registration of beekeepers.
  • In the second phase, all sales transactions in honey trading in the country shall be captured through a mobile app to achieve desired results in the area of honey source traceability.
  • This will help in keeping a check on the adulteration of honey.

About Honey Corners

  • For marketing support to the FPOs, NAFED has developed 14-15 Honey Corners in Delhi and Mussoorie.
  • More such Honey Corners will be developed by NAFED.

Additional Information

  • Both the production and export of honey has increased in 2019-20 compared to 2013-14 figures.

Anamaya

Context: Union Minister launched tribal health cooperative ‘Anamaya’.

About Anamaya

  • Anamaya is a tribal health collaborative supported by Piramal Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
  • It will converge efforts of various government agencies and organisations to enhance the health and nutrition status of the tribal communities of India.
  • The initiative is committed to ending preventable deaths in the tribal communities.
  • Starting with 50 tribal aspirational districts, the Tribal Health Collaborative (THC) would help to accelerate TB activities and achieve India’s target of TB Elimination by 2025 through the launch of a “Jan Andolan for TB” along with focus on addressing key determinants like alcohol dependence and under-nutrition in tribal areas.

Plans under Anamaya

  • Over a 10-year period, the work of the THC will be extended to 177 tribal districts as recognised by the Tribal Affairs Ministry.
  • It aims to build a sustainable, high-performing health ecosystem to address the key health challenges faced by the tribal population of India.
  • The THC proposes to establish 500 Primary Health Centres and 100 Community Health Centres in the next couple of years.
  • It also plans to integrate 5000 tribal healers with the health system.
  • There are also plans to establish tele-medicine facilities in the remotest tribal blocks.

Other agencies that will coordinate in this initiative are the NITI Aayog, and the ministries of AYUSH, Women and Child Development, Tribal Affairs, and Health.
