HUMAN EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Human excretory system consists of
A pair of kidney
A pair of ureters
A urinary bladder
A urethra
thoracic vertebra close to dorsal inner wall of the abdominal cavity.
Each kidney measures 10-12 cm in length, 5-7 cm in width, 2-3 cm in
thickness.
Towards the centre of inner concave surface is a notch, called hilum
through which ureters, blood vessel and nerves enter into the kidney.

HUMAN EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Inner to hilum is a broad funnel shaped space
called renal pelvis with projections called calyces.
The outer wall of kidney is a tough capsule.
Internally the kidney is differentiated into outer cortex and inner
medulla.
The medulla is divided into a few conical masses called medullary
pyramids.
Pyramids projected into the calyces.
The cortex extended in-between the medullary pyramids as renal
columns called columns of Bertini.

FAQs on Excretory Products & their Elimination PPT Biology Class 11

1. What are excretory products and why are they important?
Ans. Excretory products are waste substances produced by the body's metabolic processes. They include urine, carbon dioxide, sweat, and feces. These products need to be eliminated from the body to maintain proper physiological balance. Accumulation of excretory products can be harmful and lead to various health issues.
2. How does the body eliminate excretory products?
Ans. The body eliminates excretory products through various organs and processes. The kidneys filter waste products from the blood and excrete them in the form of urine. The lungs eliminate carbon dioxide through respiration. Sweat glands eliminate waste products through perspiration. The digestive system eliminates solid waste products through bowel movements.
3. What is the role of the kidneys in excretion?
Ans. The kidneys play a crucial role in excretion. They filter waste products, excess water, and toxins from the blood to produce urine. The kidneys also regulate the balance of electrolytes, maintain blood pressure, and produce hormones involved in red blood cell production. Proper functioning of the kidneys is vital for maintaining overall health.
4. What happens if excretory products are not eliminated properly?
Ans. If excretory products are not eliminated properly, they can accumulate in the body and lead to various health problems. For example, the accumulation of toxins can cause damage to organs and tissues, leading to disease. Excess water retention can result in swelling and edema. Buildup of waste products can also disrupt electrolyte balance and impair the functioning of vital organs.
5. How can we ensure the proper elimination of excretory products?
Ans. To ensure proper elimination of excretory products, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes drinking an adequate amount of water to promote proper kidney function and urine production. Regular exercise helps improve circulation and enhances the elimination of waste products through sweating. Following a balanced diet, rich in fiber, can aid in proper bowel movements and elimination of solid waste. Additionally, avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption can help maintain healthy lung function and efficient elimination of carbon dioxide.
